Gabby’s Monday Motivational Story

Tell us a bit about you and your dog/s

I’m a 20 year old who loves being outside and doing any sport that I can possibly try, the faster and muddier the better. I love running, biking and playing rugby. When I got my Hungarian Vizsla, (Bracken) I got her with canicross and bikejoring in mind. She’s like most Vizslas in the sense that she is full of life, loves to run and play and takes absolute joy from just being with me.

Tell us a bit about your canicross experience so far…

I started canicross with Bracken as soon as she turned 2 last year, we were absolutely loving it and had some incredible experiences together running through woodland, on the beach and even on marshland. I loved that I could share some of the beautiful views with my best friend and create some amazing memories with her. Sadly in May of last year I suffered a stress fracture in my femur which meant that I was on crutches for 3 months. I’m still recovering from it now but I can bikejor with her now which has kept us both fit as well as keeping us happy too. I’m hoping to be back to canicross soon and would absolutely love to do some competitions next year with Bracken. In the meantime I will use the prospect of getting back out on those runs to keep me focused on my recovery!

Tell us about how canicross has helped you and your dog/s and your biggest achievements

Canicross has helped us with many personal achievements. Firstly, it was always a goal of mine to have a dog who I could canicross with so I took a lot of time in training Bracken for it and when all the training paid off that was a massive achievement for us both as a team. We’ve also had other achievements such as our top speeds and longest distances while canicrossing. I feel like I’ve achieved something every time I go out and run with Bracken as it makes us bond more and more as a team. As a first time dog owner canicross has made me realise that me and my little red dog can do anything together.

What are your goals and plans for the future?

I would absolutely love to compete in canicross and bikejor races with Bracken next year and keep improving as a team. Overall the goal though is to make sure that we’re always enjoying ourselves and making sure we’re both fit and healthy.
