About Emily Thomas, The Canicross Consultant

Emily was drawn into the sport of canicross back in 2009 when she found the sport as a way to help her manage her rescue dog Tegan’s behavioural issues. Once she started and took part in her first CaniX race late 2009, Emily was hooked!

Since then she has competed every year in National Championships with some of her most notable achievements being runner up in her first full year of championship canicross races with Tegan and Judo, winning the scooter championship in 2011/12 – coming 3rd in the CaniX bikejor championship 2012/13 and gaining a European bikejor ranking of 11th with Donnie in the Elite Female Open Bikejor class and a European ranking of 29th in the Elite Womens Canicross with Judo, by taking part in the 15th European Canicross Federation Championships.

Emily then went on to gain a European bikejor ranking of 10th with Donnie in the Elite Female class and a European ranking of 25th in the Elite Womens Canicross with Judo, taking part in the 17th European Canicross Federation Championships in Scotland in 2015 after a couple of years of winning medals in various national championship races in both bikejor and scooter classes.

Emily has trained for long-distance canicross events and completed the Cotswold Way in 2016 and 60 odd miles of the West Highland Way in 2011, only retiring due to injury.

Since the lockdowns of the pandemic, Emily has been throwing herself into teaching others through Canicross Coach rather than focusing on her own racing and training although still regularly competes in national championship races and runs up to half marathon distances.

Emily has qualifications in Canine Hydrotherapy, Canine Emergency First Aid, Teaching Adult Education, Law and certifications in Canine Conditioning, Leadership in Running Fitness, Diplomas in Canine Myotherapy, Canine Anatomy & Physiology, Canine Holistic Health and Pet Psychology, and is a Canine Arthritis Management Level 1 Advocate.

Emily is part of the team that brought the very first Ofqual regulated Level 3 Canicross Coaching qualification to the sport to raise the standards of teaching for both canicross instructors and canicross beginners.

Emily is continually adding to her collection of qualifications, diplomas, and certifications but is probably best known for K9 Trail Time her multiple award-winning business which was established in 2012 to retail all the canicross equipment for the sport and has established Emily as an expert within her field of harness fitting for dogs based on a functional approach to movement backed up by science and study of canine gait, anatomy and physiology.
