Tell us a bit about you and your dog/s
My dog is Benji, a Border collie who is nearly 3 years old and is a lovely boy. He is very active and loves canicross, agility, hoopers and generally playing with a ball. We live in Weston-super-Mare and spend lots of time outdoors on the beach, walking the Mendips or exploring further afield. I work for the NHS in Human Resources and mainly work from home, so spend a lot of time with Benji.
Tell us a bit about your canicross experience so far…
Benji and I have been running together for just over a year. We did a couple of parkruns before the rules were changed, since then we have done a couple of canicross events. We have joined Canicross Somerset and looking forward to doing more races together. I completed the Canicross Foundations course with K9 Trail Time earlier this year.
Tell us about how canicross has helped you and your dog/s and your biggest achievements
Canicross has been wonderful for Benji and I to keep fit whilst bonding over something we both love. It’s great for my mental health in helping me unwind from work and keeps Benji mentally stimulated and having fun. Our biggest achievement in a race was the recent Bath Skyline 10k where we finished 13th overall and 4th in my age category, but most of all Benji and I had lots of fun and great memories of time together.
What are your goals and plans for the future?
Would like to run more races and gradually increase Benji to more mileage and eventually to half marathon distance. To try and run with Canicross Somerset or other Canicross groups so we can meet more fellow canicrossers and become more part of a community.
